Chelsea fans could be getting re-acquainted with Jose Mourinho again next season as reports gather pace he is finalising a deal with Manchester United.

The Special One was sacked by the champions in December after their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Guus Hiddink was appointed as his replacement until the end of term and tasked with trying to secure Champions League football.

But while Hiddink’s replacement remains a mystery, under-fire Louis van Gaal’s position at Manchester United appears more clear.

This morning’s national newspapers claim Mourinho has told friends he is convinced his move to Old Trafford is a done deal.

Spanish outlet El Confidencial claims Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendes, is finalising a €20m-a-year deal with United.

Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman is due to hold a conference call on Thursday.

And Mourinho confirmed in a recent interview that he would return to football soon.

"To be fully happy I need everything, so I go back to football," he said.

"I think it’s my natural habitat. I have worked since I can remember, and as a manager since 2000. For sure, I will be back soon.”

Mourinho would be reigniting his feud with former foe Pep Guardiola as the former Barcelona manager heads to Manchester City next term.
