Jose Mourinho is confident Chelsea will not go through a crisis this season like rivals Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal have already suffered.

The Blues are five points clear of Southampton at the top of the Premier League ahead of this weekend’s visit of West Bromwich Albion.

City could be dumped out of Europe in midweek and remain eight points behind Mourinho’s Blues in the race to retain their crown.

Euro flops: Manchester City could crash out of the Champions League

Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool, who Chelsea beat 2-1 at Anfield before the international break, have had a disastrous start to life with Luis Suarez.

United continue to struggle to find the right formula under Louis Van Gaal and have struggled to even put out four recognised defenders in recent weeks.

Arsene Wenger has heavily criticised for not splashing the cash in the transfer market and the Gunners find themselves outside of the Champions League spots.

Meanwhile, the Special One has turned Stamford Bridge into a fortress once again and believes his team’s consistency is what sets them apart from the rest.

“The thing that gives us confidence is the results we are getting are not occasional, Mourinho explained.

“They're because we're playing well. We believe that, when we lose points, the next game we are going to play well again.

Bouncing back: Chelsea beat Liverpool after dropping points against Maribor

“Against Maribor we lost two points, but in the next game we were not in crisis. We were at Liverpool to play well again. I don't believe there'll be a chelsea crisis in the season.

“I believe Chelsea will lose points and matches, but not in a crisis of results. I truly believe in our ability based on the ability we have.”

Manchester United have no European competition this season after David Moyes led the club to a dismal seventh-place finish.

Arsenal are facing up to a similar prospect next season if results do not improve and Mourinho reckons the fear of failing to qualify for the Champions League has made it tougher to win the title in England.

“Football has changed a lot,” he added. “One of the things that helped the championship to be more competitive is the fear of not being in the Champions League next year.

“This is a situation that applied to all of us. A situation where you cannot be disappointed because you are third, fourth or fifth.

Failed to deliver: David Moyes was sacked by United

“If you are disappointed and lose more points because you are disappointed, at the end of the season you are double disappointed: you didn't win the title and you didn't get in the European competition.

“The team that will be champions are the side who fights for points until the last day. It will be very difficult. I know we are playing very well. I know that clearly.

“But it's pure, simple mathematics. We have played 11 matches. We have 27 matches to play. We're not even halfway through the season, so it's too early. Too early.”
