An injury-time penalty from Jon-Barrie Bates rescued a point for Bedfont Green at home to Chessington & Hook on Saturday.

With 90 minutes up and Green trailing 1-0, Chris Henry was tripped by a visiting defender, and skipper Bates smashed home to earn a share of the spoils.

Chessington took a deserved 12th-minute lead, but Green should have had an earlier penalty when Russell Miner was fouled just as he was about to convert Gavin Hart's cross, but the ref waved play-on.

The point kept Dennis Bainborough's men second in the Combined Counties Premier as leaders Epsom & Ewell, who have a game in hand, were surprisingly held to a goalless draw by struggling Horley Town.

Green, who host Raynes Park Vale on Saturday, have also played one more game than Cove, Camberley Town and North Greenford United, who are separated below them by just three points.

Town on Tuesday night was abandoned after just 12 minutes due to a floodlight failure.

There was little for them to shout about on Saturday either, going down to a 4-0 defeat at Cove.

They make the short journey to Chertsey Town this weekend.
