John Terry knows that the day will come when his place in the Chelsea team may well be eclipsed by young buck Kurt Zouma.

Terry was both composed in defence, and vital going forward on Tuesday night – as Chelsea grabbed a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League second round tie at the Parc des Princes .

Gary Cahill joined him in defence , with the 20-year-old Frenchman sitting out the game n the bench.

Stalwart: Chelsea's John Terry

Of the young centre half, Terry said: “He's done really well. When Gary plays he's been great, the same with Kurt.

“It's hard to get the balance, but we're all rotating and there are enough games to share around.

“Obviously we all want to play every game. Those two are fighting it out at the minute, but it could be me any time.

“It's important we remain on top of the Premier League and everyone gets their game time.”

But if Terry could see a future where Zouma was selected over him, he insisted he had no plans about it happening out of his need for a rest from football.

“I don't want (a rest),” he said. “There is a lot of pressure. Everything is coming on it for me. I am coming toward the end of my career so it's important I'm playing as much as I can and stay fit.”
