John Terry has confirmed he will be leaving Chelsea at the end of the season to bring his incredible career with the club to an end.

The legendary skipper joined the Blues at the age of 14 and has led the team to four Premier League crowns, five FA Cups, three League Cups, two Community Shields, the Europa League and Champions League.

He has played 477 league matches for Chelsea and only lies behind Ryan Giggs, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes in the number of appearances by a player for a single club in the Premier League.

Terry remains the division's highest-scoring defender with 40 goals to his name so far and his announcement came just hours after he had captained the side to victory over MK Dons to keep them on the road to Wembley on another FA Cup adventure.

"Ideally I would have loved to stay, but the club's moving in a different direction," he said. "I couldn't play for another Premier League club. It will be elsewhere for sure," added the former England captain.

"I feel as though I'm in great nick, I'm playing great and I've got a couple of years to go. It'll just be elsewhere.

"The club will move on. No player is ever bigger than the club. No doubt they'll sign one or two great centre-backs."
