Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was pleased with QPR's organisation after they claimed a 1-0 win away at Wigan.

Nedum Onuoha scored the only goal of the game as Rangers out-fought the newly promoted Latics to emerge victorious.

And Hasselbaink felt his side did what they needed to do to grind out the three points at the DW Stadium.

He said: “For us, it was important that we came here and made sure our platform and organisation was right and make sure we didn't give a lot away.

“We knew how they wanted to play and how dominant they can be and we pushed them all over the pitch.

“I think we could have been better with the ball but I must say, overall, it was a very solid performance.

“It was a grinder and, at times a little bit nervous but that happens away from home and we ground a win out.”

Onuoha's strike was a goal that Hasselbaink would have been pleased with and he revealed that Rangers defenders spend more time trying to finish with their head and not their feet.

He added: “Nedum is trying to finish and it's a different one for us all as normally it's with the head but I'll take this one as well. We work on finishing with the centre halves but not so much with the feet.”

The 1-0 win brings an end to a strong first month for Rangers as they go into the international break with nine points from 15 and, while Hasselbaink will always look for perfection, he was satisfied with August's work.

He explained: “You always want more. Against Preston, we deserved nothing. Against Barnsley, we were unlucky.

“We'll take the nine points and move on. We've got two weeks to give players who have knocks a bit of time and to recharge the batteries and try and improve as a team.”
