QPR interim manager Neil Warnock believes the Hoops can win promotion to Premier League with the help of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who is expected to be appointed as new boss on Friday.

Warnock led Rangers to a late 1-0 Sky Bet Championship win over Reading just hours after discovering it would be his last game in charge.

He said: "It's been a difficult 24 hours because I didn't expect it to be the last game. I asked the players to give everything they've got and they did.

"I mean look at Sandro, he had a great game - he has never run like that before."

The travelling QPR fans remained vocal throughout and Warnock greatly appreciated the support given.

"It was emotional, the fans chanting my name. I have a special relationship with this club," he added.

"I wanted to try and win the game with it being my last. We made substitutions to try and win and when you win right at the end, it doesn't get much better that.

Warnock has great hope for the future with the Hoops just two points outside the play-off places after the victory.

He said: "It's been an emotional night for me and for them but there is no reason why we don't get in the play-offs and go up.

"It's a wide-open league, Jimmy will find it difficult but he can be successful.

"He needs to put his stamp on it and relish it."

The 67-year-old is unsure what he will do next in the world of football but has loved his time back at QPR.

"I have had a lot of fun these last weeks. I miss the training ground banter and motivating players who aren't in the team to do well.

"Who knows what's around the corner and we will see what happens in the next few weeks."
