Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is pleased with how his QPR side have been coming together as a squad ahead of the new season.

The Dutchman has the chance to stamp his authority on the club after taking over in December and has made personnel changes on and off the pitch.

While Rangers are not the finished article at this time, Hasselbaink is pleased with how his side are coming along ahead of the big kick-off against Leeds on August 7.

He said: “I've been pleased. We're getting stronger physically and the understanding is getting there.

“There's still work to be done It's making sure that we keep on building, improving, gelling and making that form and that team strong with 20-25 leaders with 11 players and 14 cheering them on.”

Steven Caulker has been linked with a move away from Loftus Road but Hasselbaink has, once again, insisted he would like to see the former Tottenham man stay.

He added: “I hope so. He played well at Wycombe. He looks good and is physically good. It's good to get that match fitness. I want him to stay.”

One former Spurs player not in the Dutchman's plans is Sandro and, while Hasselbaink wouldn't rule out a first team return for the Brazilian who is training with the U21s at this time, a Loftus Road departure appears likely.

The Rs boss added: “He's still a part of the club. You never know. You can make assumptions about his future.

“We've got Karl, Massimo in front of him. He has to be better than them. I think he's looking for something else. He sees himself as a Premier League player.”
