Hayes & Yeading skipper Dean Inman was absolutely gutted after his side were relegated from the Conference South as a late penalty cost them dearly against Dover Athletic, reports Jamie Stinson

The game was littered with controversy after the referee awarded a penalty against United's Adam Everitt for handball in the 85th minute, which sealed their place in the Ryman League next season .

The home side's players and supporters were stunned when the official pointed to the spot as they felt the left-back's arm was at his side and there was nothing he could have done about the shot.

After the game Inman, who was send off after the final whistle for remonstrating with the referee, said he was absolutely gutted after being relegated in such a controversial way.

"The penalty was a shot from 40 yards and it hits our lad,” Inman explained.

“Fair enough it's hit him on the arm, but his arm is down by his side, and he's not moved his arm towards the ball. I think the referee couldn't have blown the whistle quick enough. It's just one of those things."

Inman said, when the penalty was given all he could feel was rage.

"We have officials who I think haven't played a game of football and to think he can get his arm out of the way that quickly, he's clueless," he added.

H & Y felt they had a decision go against them when it appeared Dover goalkeeper Mitch Walker used his hand to knock the ball back into his area, with the referee ruling it hit his shoulder.

The skipper said: "I suppose we could sit and moan about the ref all day, some of the decisions he made today were absolutely embarrassing. But that won't change the outcome that we've be relegated."
