Queens Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway admitted he wasn't totally satisfied with his team's first half performance against Rotherham United and had to make a change or two at half-time.

The Hoops took an early lead through Matt Smith, but Rotherham equalised in stunning fashion which even had Rangers supporters applauding.

Thankfully, Luke Freeman restored the lead moments later, but it wasn't until the second period where the hosts really got going.

And Holloway revealed he wanted his side to have a go at Rotherham on the back of the lowly position, but he was surprised his defence played deeper than originally expected.

"The second half was professional but the first half I didn't enjoy it at all," the boss said, post-match.

"We scored early and it looked like we had done enough, but we didn't move the ball sharply enough or press.

"They hit a long ball and equalise, where were my midfielders? No way would I let somebody get the other side of me.

"Luckily we managed to get another goal and I was delighted with the second half.

"I made some changes and we managed to stay higher to cause their back four problems that I felt we were able to do.

"In the end we got what we deserved, but we have to keep going and we have to understand tactics and the game.

"I didn't expect my lads to be that deep - I did tell them to let them (Rotherham) have it - so I made a tweak at half-time which they toom on board.

"Then, the substitutes came on, and at the minute every time I put anybody on, they show me that want to be starting.

"I didn't even use some others, who didn't even deserve to be out of the team, so that's what's great.

"But I am very pleased for everybody and I want to keep going. I want to set the standards really."
