Nedum Onuoha reckons Manchester City’s dramatic title win two years ago saved his bacon.

The defender was the only one to be a winner in both camps when Sergio Aguero’s last-gasp goal snatched the championship from rivals Manchester United on goal difference as QPR also escaped the drop by the skin of their teeth.

He said: “As far as games go that was the biggest occasion of my career. I was at City at the start of the season and only played a few games.

“When I went back there was the chance they could win the league and we could go down, or we would win and stay up, City not win the league and me never be allowed back in Manchester again!

“As it turned out it was a perfect scenario and the type of fairytale ending you wouldn’t even see in a film. They won the league, we stayed up and I was home in my house in 15 minutes!

“I ended up going in both dressing rooms after the game. In the QPR dressing room we were relieved that we had got away with it, then in the City one there was beer and champagne flowing.”
