Fans' favourite Luke Williams has returned to Hayes & Yeading and admitted his heart never left the club.

Williams spent three seasons with Phil Babb’s team and pulled on the red shirt more than 100 times before moving on to Margate in May last year.

But he last week agreed to come back to United and the midfielder came off the bench in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Havant & Waterlooville.

“It is always good to come back,” Williams said after making his return.

“The club have always been close to my heart and that will never change. I love all the fans as well, so it is nice to be back and playing my football once again.

“It didn’t work out for me at Margate and when I got the chance to come back here I snapped their hand off and took the opportunity.

“Now I’m back at a club that loves me and I love them and hopefully I can put some solid performances in.”

The 1-0 loss to the Hawks at York Road means Hayes & Yeading are still searching for their first victory of 2015.

They have gone six games without a win and their conquerors at the weekend had to play much of the second half with 10 men before Nic Ciardini got the winner.

However, Williams is positive his team can push out of this bad spell and forget about the off-the-field financial troubles threatening to cause the club to fold.

“It is good to get some minutes under my belt and feature on the pitch as I’m looking for the best ways to help the team,” he added.

“Obviously it was disappointing. We had chances in the first half as well as hitting the post, and the keeper pulled off some good saves, so overall we are very annoyed with not coming away with at least a point.

“Some people say it is harder to play against a team with 10 men, but on the day you have to play against the line-up in front of you. We’re disappointed but we’ll go again, bounce back, and hopefully go on to get three points.

“We need to keep our heads up and win a game. Once we do that the situations that are happening off the field will take of themselves.”

Meanwhile, Matt Ruby, one of the anchors in the United defence, has decided to take a break from playing.
