Phil Babb was convinced his side had stopped the rot against Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday only for a late slip to cost Hayes & Yeading a point.

United made it seven straight defeats as the Hawks flew away with the three points thanks to Ryan Woodford’s winner four minutes from time.

He stole in on goal to prod home a late corner after a Hayes & Yeading covering defender had lost his balance and allowed the Havant goalscorer to get the run on him.

Boss Babb pointed to the Kingfield playing surface to assign blame and insists you cannot legislate for errors like that in football.

“I thought the game had draw written all over it,” Babb said.

“The two teams cancelled each other out. Unfortunately one of our boys slipped late on and their player has had a tap-in.

“It’s another error that’s perhaps due to the pitch rather than our player. You can’t legislate for that.”

Babb’s boys must now pick themselves up and prepare for Saturday’s visit to play-off chasing Ebbsfleet United.
