Under-fire boss Harry Redknapp insists he won’t quit QPR – even if the club fails to win promotion from the Championship.

In a heated Friday press conference, the man in charge believes the board might make that decision for him, but the 66-year-old shook both head and metaphorical fist at those who say his job is under threat.

Rangers are winless in four, and have just a single goal to show for the last three games going into tomorrow’s home clash with Leeds. But the manager reckons not only is his job safe for the time being – he wondered out loud why the panic?

“Being fourth in the league is not the worst we can be in. We’re not sitting fourth from bottom or even halfway," he said.

“We bought in two top players, got rid of 18, but unfortunately both of them (Charlie Austin and Matt Phillips) are injured.

“Where are Wolves? Where are Bolton who came down from the Premier League? Reading and Wigan both came down with us and we’re still sitting above them.

"I must be misreading the script somewhere. I’ve been in this job a long time and I don’t understand it.”

For all that, if Rangers were to miss out, the manager can see a summit meeting on the horizon.

“I would talk to the owners, talk to them, and see where we go from there,” he said.

“West Ham came down a couple of years ago with a good team and they got up with the play-offs.

“We can still get automatic (promotion), but if not it we can still go up with the play-offs.”
