David Howell has hailed the return to form of unsettled striker Jonathan Constant.
Constant followed up his Ryman League Cup goal at Godalming Town with a classy equaliser against Billericay Town last weekend, his first in the Ryman Premier since September last year.
The 20-year-old was as ever-present until November before dropping down the pecking order behind Gary Noel and Miles Jones.
However, his double burst appears to have energised not only himself, but an entire team desperate for a regular goal-scorer to fill the shoes of Robin Shroot.
"Two games, two goals ... we've got JC back," said Howell. "He said he should have got three against Godalming and no doubt he will think the same about Saturday. He took that goal unbelievably well from a tight angle."
The angle was such that Constant's momentum took him over the barrier and into the terracing, where he celebrated before making his way back onto the pitch.
"I think he was going for a burger or something!" joked Howell. "For me,it is not just about JC at 3pm on a Saturday. It is about his preparation and attitude."
Howell also revealed a change in footwear has aided Constant's change in fortunes.
"He used to wear blades and was like Bambi on ice, falling all over the place.I told him to get boots with studs in and he did. He is know knuckling down and is the last to stay behind at training.I had to turn the floodlights off at the ground to get him to leave."
Howell maintained, however, that Constant could still seek a move away from Earlsmead, providing it is the right one for all parties.
"I'm not saying he won't seek pastures new as, ultimately, that is what he wants to do, but how he performs and applies himself will determine where those pastures are," added the manager."After your last article went in about JC (possibly wanting to leave) I had a call from a manager enquiring about him, but his team was from the league below and JC wants to play at a higher level, not a lower one.If he does not apply himself that will be where he ends up, but so far the signs are very positive. He is back and he is a force."
