Barry Fuller is facing a race against time to be fit for AFC Wimbledon’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge on New Year’s Day.

The Dons travel to Victoria Road on Wednesday for their first game of 2014 but could be without Fuller after the defender suffered a dead leg in Sunday’s draw with Plymouth.

Fuller slumped to the floor in a heap midway through the second-half of the stalemate before picking himself up and bravely carrying on.

But Wimbledon’s medical team decided enough was enough, replacing him with Will Antwi, and manager Neal Ardley is unsure if he will be ready to face the Daggers.

“It was a dead leg, just above his knee,” Ardley confirmed.

“It was typical Barry, trying to run it off. The physio said give him a little bit longer and you’re thinking: ‘I hope it doesn’t cost us’.

“In the end, it was too much for him. There’s not much time until the next game but we’ll see if the physios can work their magic.”

Ardley is expecting a tough test from a Dagenham side that held league leaders Chesterfield to a 1-1 draw ahead of the visit of the Dons.

“They’re a good side,” Ardley said.

“They pass the ball well and have got a lot of pace and trickery and movement in their team.

“We know that, first and foremost, we’re away from home against a good team and make sure that we don’t find ourselves chasing the game.”
