It caught the imagination - see above - but Denis Odoi insists that trick where he used his back to flick the ball over Newcastle defender Paul Dummett was a one-off.
In fact, the Fulham right-back says he has never been known as a ‘technical’ player and reckons the moment came out of the blue.
Whites were deservedly leading 1-0 while taking the game to the odds-on side for the Championship trophy when Odoi took the ball from a long pass down the wing and used his back to flick the ball and chase it down the wing.
Even so, he would swap the glory of that moment for improvement in the art of defending.
“I’ve done some other things, but first things first,” he said. “I don’t know (if I fancied doing it for the cameras) it just happened.
“I was growing into the game; we were playing well, but I am a defender so first things first I need to defend properly, try to keep a clean sheet and then on the offensive part I’ll try and give a voice to my impulses.”
However, the man signed from Lokeren as obvious replacement for Jazz Richards, now at Cardiff, was honest enough to admit a bit of pizzazz on TV added lustre to a good win.
“It was the first game in the Championship, it was on Sky so there were a lot of eyes on the game and that I did that,” he added.
