Fulham could start with both Cauley Woodrow and Matt Smith against Newcastle - and the two had better conjure up a goal or two.

Boss Slavisa Jokanovic has called them his 'number one and two' up top after the departures of Moussa Dembele and Ross McCormack.

The remaining pair were reduced to just six starts last season after injury and the form of the other two kept them on the sidelines, and in truth there is no else to fill the void.

Chances are, the head coach will only use one, Woodrow the likelier, with Sone Aluko playing the No 10 role, and Cairney and Ayite on the wings.

Best foot forward: Cauley Woodrow scores

However, time will quickly run out for either Woodrow or Smith or both as Jokanvic has promised to spend a chunk of the McCormack £12m transfer fee on his replacement.

He added: "I think the chairman understands what we need, and I expect very soon we are going to bring in more players.

"In this moment these two players (Smith and Woodrow) are my first and second option for this position.

"But after Moussa Dembele and Ross McCormack have left the club I need more people.

"Both Smith and Woodrow made a very good pre-season and now they are my first option.

"They understand what I expect for players who play in this position. In the beginning of the season 100 per cent I am going to use them.

"But as I explained before we need more players and a bigger squad because these two players is simply not enough for us."
