Now you see him - now you don't.

It looks likely Kostas Mitroglou will join Benfica and link up with former QPR favourite Adel Taarabt, days after the Greek striker featured for Fulham against Crystal Palace.

Sources insist the Eagles from Lisbon have struck a deal to take over Mitroglou's contract, worth around 1.4 million euros a year, with an option to by him outright for six million euros next summer.

It would see Fulham required to take a £6m hit on the most expensive player in the club's history, and one who only featured three times for the Whites before getting loaned back to Olympiakos last season.

Mitroglou was set to join Benfica's fierce rivals across Lisbon, Sporting, but the World Cup international is now headed to the original Stadium of Light.

This was the misfit forward arriving in Lisbon last night.
