Fulham have competition to sign Uruguayan striker Diego Rolan, with newly-promoted Newcastle United believed to have entered the race to sign him.

The Magpies are looking to boost their firepower back in the Premier League, and that may prove difficult for the Whites to compete with.

Frencg newspaper Sud Ouest is reporting that the Uruguayan international, who scored nine goals last season, is currently in London.

Fulham are believed to have conducted talks with the player, but now Newcastle could come in with a late offer with the lure of top flight football.

Sud Ouest believe the Magpies are frustrated with the transfer market and are desperate to land another front man.

Rolan only has one more year on his current deal at Bordeaux, so a fee will be involved and Fulham have money to spend.

The player was previously valued at around £12m but the Whites will be confident of landing him for much less.

Newcastle, however, will be able to offer Rolan higher wages.
