Tom Cairney is itching to impress the Fulham fans as the big kick-off against Cardiff approaches.

The Whites finished in the bottom half of the Championship last season after an underwhelming season, sparking a summer overhaul.

And the midfielder, who joined from Blackburn, is keen to provide a spark towards a promotion push this year.

He said: “I hope I can add something. We had quality here. It's hard in the first season coming down from the Premier League. It's a fresh start. Hopefully we can kick on.

“Hopefully I can stay fit and contribute on the pitch. I like to get on the ball and make things happen and play it on the floor, try and create chances and nick a goal.”

Cairney already feels as if he has settled in west London and believes he has made the right move to leave Rovers for a new life down south.

He added: “I've enjoyed it. It happened quite quickly. Coming from up north, London is a bit surreal, packed and crazy.

“I like it. I'm a young lad so I like the city. It's a nice place to play football. The pitch is unbelievable and it's a great club.

“Since week one, it felt right. Pre-season has been tough and we've had trips to Portugal and Austria. We've got to play the football now.”

Fulham make the trip to Cardiff on Saturday and the midfielder is keen to make a strong start to the campaign.

He added: “I played them in the first match last season and it was a tough game. We'll go there full of confidence and look to get a result.

“They'll be looking to do better than last season as will we.”

Lookalike? Justin Bieber pictured in an Everton kit.

Cairney has taken the nickname 'Biebs' after singer Justin Bieber and is relaxed about being compared to the Canadian.

He joked: “It's a bit of a compliment to me though, not to him. It's a joke because of the quiff. I don't mind his music.”

Cairney is also a fan of box-sets as a way to chill out with Game of Thrones being his current watch.
