Last call for questions for this week’s Fulham webchat, anyone got any other pressing issues they want answering?

What do we know of Fredericks' injury?

James: What do you know about Fredricks injury?

So we know that he suffered a foot injury in training and that he could be back in contention for Saturday, although the game at Bolton is looking more likely.

What do you make of Djalo?

Chase has asked: What do you make of Djalo?

There’s not really too much to say about Djalo - he’s only featured twice this season and those were in the Carabao Cup.

Jokanovic seems to have him in higher steed that Madl who has disappeared off the face of the planet but I don’t think the boss thinks he’s at the level required yet for the first team.

Is Dwight Gayle still on the radar?

Joel has asked: Dwight Gayle still on the radar?

There’s not been any mention of him in recent weeks, and at the moment Gayle isn’t exactly doing great for Newcastle and seems to be well out of favour up there.

Fulham do lack a natural finisher so I wouldbn’t be surprised if they did go back for him in January.

A disagreement over Button POTS

Francis has said: I have to disagree with Button as player of the season. Granted he hasn’t done too much wrong but he still looks petrified from set pieces and aerial balls into the box.

He doesn’t command his area at all and his distribution is mixed at best. Fulham need better than him or Bettinelli between the sticks. He also doesn’t organise his backline at all and is one of the least vocal ‘keepers I have ever seen.

Player of the season for me would be McDonald or Fredericks, both have delivered consistently strong performances.

Hi Francis, you raise some fair points and Button is by no means perfect.

I don’t feel he’s been petrified from aerial balls into the box however, he seems to have worked on that and has done a good job this season in collecting those high balls into his box.

His distribution is mixed, you’re right, but I just feel Fulham would’ve been in a worse position had it not been for him in goal, his shot stopping and saves from one-one-ones can’t be underestimated.

Preston timewasting tactics?

Didi has asked: What did you make of Preston’s timewasting?

Yeah there was a fair bit of it, and although it’s part and parcel of the game it is frustrating when a team overplays it.

It’s up to the referee to cut it out but they don’t seem to be doing enough for me, but if teams are going to do it and get away with it they’ll carry it on.

What is the best Fulham XI?

Rico asks: What do you think is Fulham’s best team if all the players were available?

Good question - we haven’t seen everyone play yet but I think this is what I’d go for:

Button

Fredericks, Kalas, Ream, Soares

McDonald

Cairney, Johansen

Mollo, Fonte, Sessegnon

Who's my favourite player

Sonny has asked: Who is your favourite Fulham player?

It’d be unfair of me to have favourites Sonny, but as I said previously, I’ve been impressed with Button this season.

Should Fulham target Terry with quicker players?

Colin has asked: With Terry being past it and also very slow Do you think we should Target him with our quick players like Ayite Kebano and Fonte? Surely they would have a field day against JT

Hi Colin, firstly I’d be very wary about saying that Terry is ‘past it’ - he’s still a very good footballer and has won pretty much everything there is to win.

Targeting him with quicker players does make sense, but Terry has never been the quickest of defenders and teams will have tried that before countless times.

Keeping a fluid front three who can interchange may be the way forward against Terry to really test if he still has the organisational and spacial awareness that made him the player he was at Chelsea.

What do you make of Matt O'Riley?

Darren has asked: I heard that Matt O’Riley played versus Southampton in a friendly and was outstanding..do you know if this was why he wasnt at the World Cup? Also do you think he and others will play this season??

He did indeed play in that game and although I wasn’t at it, it wouldn’t surprise me that he played well.

I think we may see him and others in the FA Cup like we did in the Carabao Cup, but I’m unsure if they will see much league action - the squad is quite strong in terms of depth this season.

I’m a big fan of O’Riley, I think he has the potential to be a fantastic footballer and, like I said with Sessegnon earlier, there is absolutely no need to rush him into first team action at such a young age.

Do sides still fear Fulham?

Mike has asked: Last season teams feared Fulham, I don’t think that’s the case anymore. Would you agree?

I wouldn’t agree myself, I think teams do still fear Fulham but perhaps not in the same way they did last season.

Last season, they knew they could get smashed by four or five goals, and that hasn’t been the case so far this time around.

However, teams know what Fulham are about and the fact they come to the Cottage and set up to try and contain the side speaks volumes to me about what opposition coaches think Fulham can do.

Are Fulham where I expected them be at this stage?

Chad has asked: Are Fulham where you expected them to be at this point this season?

They aren’t, but I didn’t expect at the start of the season that Cairney would have hardly played.

Fulham were lucky with injuries last season, but it seems to have caught up with them this time and they’ve suffered a bit with the, Ayite, Soares, Fredericks and Kamara are all players who have been in the medical room so far.

That said, they’re still keeping pace with the frontrunners and it’s still very early on - I wouldn’t be too concerned about where they are now.

Were Fulham fans harsh on Button in the summer?

David has asked: Do you think Fulham fans were overly harsh on David Button in the summer?

Yes and no - I think Button’s performances at the back end of last season warranted Bettinelli coming in, but some of the comments I saw over the summer were a tad harsh on Button.

He’s a professional though, I doubt it has had any effect on him whatsoever but the fans have taken to Button this season after his performances and rightly so in my opinion.

Norwood and Nothern Ireland's World Cup Play-off draw

Aaron has asked: What did you make of the World Cup play-off draw for Norwood?

Northern Ireland will be happy with it, Switzerland and Denmark were arguably the two weakest sides they could’ve hoped for and they’ve got one of them and avoided Italy.

Oliver Norwood probably doesn’t care who they play, he’ll be delighted that he’s two games away from a World Cup with his country and I reckon they could do a job on the Swiss in November.

Star player this season?

Steven has asked: Who has been your star player this season?

We ran a poll the other week where people voted on this, and it came out with Kevin McDonald as the top player so far, and it’s hard to argue with but for me, it has to be David Button.

He wasn’t meant to be first choice, he’s been through it a bit whilst at Fulham but my word has he been impressive this season so far.

He looks very assured of himself in the Fulham goal and has made some stunning saves to keep the side in games - Ream and Kalas also look very settled with him behind them.

When will we see Steven Sessegnon in the first XI?

Greg has asked: When will we see Steven Sessegnon in the first team?

Good question - he’s currently ripping it up over in India with England U17s and performing well with the Fulham U23 side, but we need to remember he’s still only 17.

What happened with Ryan Sessegnon last season was out of the ordinary, it doesn’t happen too often and there isn’t any need to rush Steven into the first XI at this stage.

He’s good enough, but allowing him to develop is more beneficial at this stage than thrusting him into first team action - it’s the same with Matt O’Riley.

Where will Fulham finish this season?

David has asked: Where do you realistically feel Fulham will finish come may? automatics, play offs or not even that?

Hi David, I think Fulham will still finish in the Play-offs and challenge for the top two spots, I’m not sure they’ll win it but apart from Wolves I haven’t seen any side that I would fear.

The side haven’t got into their stride yet, yet they are still better off than they were last season and are winning games playing badly.

I feel like the division was stronger last time out too and have full confidence Fulham will finish top six at least.

Do Leicester want Jokanovic?

Brett has said: My friend tells me that Leicester want Jokanovic - any truth in this?

I don’t think Slav will be going to Leicester any time in the near future.

Norwood penalty taker?

Joe has gone in with two questions: I have two questions!
Firstly do you think Norwood will now be our penalty taker (despite Jokanovic seemingly wrongly suggesting that Fonte would continue to take them).
Secondly do you think Soares/Cairney/AK47 will start on Saturday if fit?

1. I think so - Jokanovic seemingly backed Fonte after QPR but Norwood was the man selected on Saturday and he dispatched his penalty as cool as you’d like, so I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t continue to take them for now.

2. I think Soares may be fit enough to start, but I don’t reckon either Cairney or AK47 will be - Cairney was obviously not fit on Saturday and Kamara has only returned to training this week, he’s an explosive player and I wouldn’t put him in against the like of John Terry on less than a week’s training.

What is happening with Tom Cairney?

James Chantler has our first question, and he asks: What’s happening with Tom Cairney? The club have been very secretive with his injury and it’s clear he’s playing without being fully fit ...

Good afternoon James, thanks for joining us! Yeah the club have been very secretive, but it makes sense when your best player is struggling with a knee injury that won’t seem to go away.

He’s clearly not fully fit, and the club have been trying to find out what is wrong with the knee but to no avail, Cairney has a problem there but no one is entirely sure what is and when it will go away.

They’re hoping the pain will go in time and it will clear up by itself, and Cairney has no concerns about the long term side of things.

Hopefully it clears up soon so we can see a fully fit Cairney again - Fulham were much better on Saturday when he was on and he wasn’t even out of second gear.
