Fulham have added Reading chief Steve Clarke to their shortlist of managerial targets, according to a report.

The Whites are on the lookout for a new boss after giving Kit Symons the boot earlier this month following a heavy defeat to Birmingham.

Clarke only took the reins at the Madejski Stadium in December and the Royals sit eighth in the Championship , four places above the Cottagers, with 16 games gone.

He was touted as a possible replacement for Dick Advocaat at Premier League strugglers Sunderland last month but laughed off speculation linking him with the job.

The former West Brom gaffer didn’t want to uproot his family and relocate north but the west Londoners represent an option much closer to Berkshire.

A Fulham insider told The Sun : “The club is looking for a long-term appointment. There’s nothing to choose between these three.”

The report goes on to claim Clarke is battling for the hotseat with Nigel Pearson and Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale.

Scotsman Clarke was handed a two-and-a-half year contract when he took over at Madejski Stadium in December 2014 and he still has 18 months of that deal remaining.
