We're finally in pre-season!

And with that, the ball really starts to roll at Craven Cottage, with pre-season friendlies being announced, while the club really start to work on their summer targets.

With just a week to go until Fulham kick off their first pre-season friendly over in Poland against Piast Gliwice, things are really starting to ramp up with the side back in training.

Join our Fulham reporter Ryan O'Donovan for the Tuesday lunchtime webchat at 12pm to discuss at the latest goings on.

Is McCormack regretting leaving?

KV asks: “Is McCormack regretting leaving?”

He may well be, I wouldn’t be in the position to comment on that.

We’ll have to see next season.”

Why does the club use the two tick system?

Norman asks: “Why does the club employ the two boxes ticked system? Was Petsos joining on loan as a result of this transfer committee?”

The club have a stats department headed by Tony Khan which uses stats to find players which may be a good addition to the club, but as many clubs have found out, stats don’t tell the whole story, so the club also use traditional scouting methods.

If a player ticks both boxes, the club can then move forward on them.

Petsos joined to add depth to the midfield, he suffered an injury and Fulham never had any injuries in the middle three, so they didn’t need to use him.”

Joe Ledley would do a job?

Jay says: “Joe Ledley would do a job in the midfield wouldnt he!?

He could well do, yes, but he will command big wages which Fulham could use elsewhere.

Again, would he displace any of the midfield three this season? Probably not.”

Kevin McDonald to Forest rumours?

Rob has asked: “Kevin McDonald rumours to Nottingham Forest never materialise or was fulham asking for too much money? Also, if moussa dembele (Celtic) is sold on, do we receive 0.5% of the fee?”

There hasn’t been an offer for McDonald, and he is happy at Fulham so I don’t see this happening.

I’m not sure what the deal with Dembele is and I’d have to check I’m afraid.”

Is Lewis Baker a possibility?

Putney asks: “Is Lewis Baker a possibility?”

He would be a fantastic addition, but I imagine there will be a long line of suitors for him now.

Also, I don’t see where he would play in this Fulham side with Johansen, McDonald and Cairney in the midfield.”

News on Mulumbu?

Michael asks: “Any news on Mulumbu?”

This deal was never going to happen - there was no interest from Fulham at all.

Where else do Fulham need to strengthen?

Danielle asks: “Apart from a striker, does Fulham need any strengthening elsewhere?”

Hi Danielle.

I think Fulham need to strengthen in their centre back department, which they’re doing, as well as add depth to the midfield and the full back options.”

Cut off for questions

I’m going to call 1.30pm as the cut off for the final questions, last chance to get them in.

Are Sunderland a sinking ship?

Chris has asked: “Are Sunderland a sinking ship?”

Haha, they could well be!

I don’t expect to see them in the top six this season, let’s put it that way.”

What does Slavisa want?

Simon asks: “Is there any insight as to what Slavisa would like with regards to signings? Any target number? Also, is the main aim to get them in during the pre season friendlies around the time of the Poland trip?”

He wants strikers.

The three players they bid for, Mounie, Fonte and Rolan are exactly the type of player he is after this summer.

There’s no number set on how many targets they want to sign, which makes sense because it’s never wise to rule anything out.

Any team would love all their signings to be in the squad by the time pre-season comes around, but they take time, so ideally yes, they would like them in by the Poland trip but there’s a number of obstacles they did to jump in order to sign these players.”

Who will be the keeper?

Tom asks: “Who’s going to be in goal? Button, Bettinelli or someone else?”

Both Button and Bettinelli will get a chance to prove why they should be number one in pre-season by Slav - whether or not another keeper comes in will remain to be seen but there hasn’t been any strong interest in one as yet.”

Any dark horses for promotion?

Hammy asks: “Its obviously early days but any dark-horses for promotion?”

Not sure about dark horses, but I expect Derby to be right up there this season, along with Villa and Sheffield Wednesday. Ask me again at the start of August and I’ll be able to give you a better answer!”

Will we let Stearman go?

Lion asks: “Will we let Stearman go?”

The club have made him available for loan, but if an offer came in for him I could see them letting him go permanently.”

Update on the Riverside stand?

Dan asks: “Whats up with the Riverside Stand?”

The club are still ongoing with this after Shahid Khan didn’t like the original plans for the redevelopment - they’re hoping to issue an update before the end of the year on this so watch this space.”

Any negotiations on Cairney?

Thomas asks: “Hi Ryan, Tom Cairney - any real interest and negotiations from other teams?”

Hi Thomas, the only real bit of news we’ve had on this was Slav’s chat with the Serbian press about a £20m bid from Newcastle which he says they rejected.

Apart from that, there’s been nothing else with Cairney and other teams, which is good news for Fulham.”

Would promotion require a squad rebuild?

JJ asks: “If we gained promotion, would it require a squad rebuild to stay up?”

It’s hard to tell at this point considering we’re in the middle of a squad rebuild for the upcoming Championship season.

It would more than likely need one, yes, but that is a long way off at the moment!”

Any hope for Sigurdsson?

Sam asks: Is there any way back for Ragnar Sigurdsson?

I think everyone will be given a chance in pre-season, but realistically it looks a long way back for the Icelandic international.

It’s a shame, he looked great at the Euros but it just hasn’t worked for him at Craven Cottage.”

Why are friendlies behind closed doors?

Two reasons - firstly the training ground can’t really accommodate the amount of fans for the games, and secondly, the club can use more of their sports science equipment at Motspur, making it easier to monitor the players.

It also allows for different rules in the games that the clubs may agree to, it just offers a larger scope of something to do.”

Will Fulham be as competitive?

@BryanFooty asks: “Are we able to be as competitive as last season considering poor summer so far and compared with other 7-8 promotion candidates?”

I think they will be, yes.

People are speaking of a poor summer but it really is only early doors, with agents and players holding out for Premier League clubs.

Once the season starts I think this needs to be revisited once the signings have been made.”

Why doesn't the club utilise Williams?

Gary asks: “Why doesn’t the club utilise Williams more often? I’ve heard he’s had a fantastic season at youth level”

He did indeed have a great second part of the season in the U23s - but the jump from that to first team is huge.

He is still only young, and the club want him out on loan this season, preferably to a Championship club, so if he does well I can see them bringing him into the first team fold the season after.”

If promotion doesn't happen this year, when will it?

Daniel says: “My greatest fear is that this is the last chance we have for promotion and that if it doesn’t happen this year, it might be another decade or so until it happens is this a possibility?”

I don’t think you can look at it that way - Fulham are in a good position, with a good grounding now so if it doesn’t happen this year they will still have chances the year after that.

It may take some rebuilding, yes, but I don’t think it’ll take another decade for it to happen again.”

Alan of the Hammersmith End has asked: 2 questions -
1- will Rolan be a Fulham player before the start of the season
2- is a Kline Slav rift imminent

1. I remain hopeful on that, he only has a year left on his deal at Bordeaux so looks set to leave and Fulham are in a good position to haggle on him.

2. They seemed to sort out their differences last season and are going down a different approach this, so I hope not. They’ll both have a say on transfers but from the look of the targets Slav is having a big say on them this year.”

A question about the club badge

Frank asks: “A little but off topic but should we replace our badge with one that is more historical like how Sheffield Wednesday have?”

I think it’s something the club need to address with fans and the Supporters’ Trust, I don’t think it’s my place to comment on it in all honesty.

Wednesday have changed, so have QPR and Brentford, so maybe it’s something they may look into.”

Why is the friendly in Poland being televised?

Dylan has asked: “Do you have any idea why the friendly between us and that polish team is being televised on the 8th? Bit odd”

The only thing I’ve seen saying it’s live on the telly is something on Twitter, while the fixtures list now states it isn’t, so I doubt it is on the tele.

I believe one of them will be streamed live on the opponent’s YouTube channel, so that may be worth looking into.”

Will any of the loanees be coming back?

Jim has asked: “Will Cyriac/Petsos/Kalas/Piazon be making a return?”

I could spend ages waffling on about these, but I’ll make it an easy read for you, Jim.

Cyriac - no, Petsos - no, Kalas - club are hopeful, Piazon - club are interested but only for the right price.”

Will Fulham have a worst team than last season?

Tom from the Putney End asks: “Will we end up with worst team than last season?”

Hi Tom!

I don’t think they will at all, after seeing how Fulham played last season, players will want to play for the club and for Jokanovic, so I wouldn’t worry.

They’re sorting out the centre back problem while addressing the need for strikers, so things are ticking along behind the scenes.

If they keep hold of Cairney and Sess and add the calibre of players they’re making bids for, it will be a much better squad.”

Let's take another Twitter signing

So the most realistic, so far, are definitely Djalo, while Rolan looks like it could be a go-er.

There’s work to do on Fonte as Braga don’t want to lose him, so it depends what Fulham come back with on him.”

Has Spurs' interest in Sessegnon cooled?

Nathan Clarke-Stewart asks: “Hi Ryan! Have the Spurs rumours for Ryan Sessegnon cooled? Any real negotiations or pure speculation?”

Hi Nathan!

Spurs haven’t cooled their interest in Sess, they still want him but they haven’t made any bids for him and there won’t be any movement on that now he’s headed off to the U19 Euros.

If I’m honest, it looks more and more likely that he’ll still be here next season.”
