Fulham and then boss Kit Symons set their hearts on capturing Kevin McDonald from Wolves last summer.

Two bids of £1m and £1.25m for the former Scotland U21 midfielder were summarily rejected, and so Whites signed Sakari Mattila instead.

Reports suggest it will be third time lucky for Whites, with Wolves boss Kenny Jackett admitting there was 'interest' for his player.

However, it appears Sheffield Wednesday have also shown their hand in the hope of winning McDonald, as Jackett and Wolves are taking their time over a player who struggled in the Black Country last season.

"There has been some interest and all parties are considering it at present," Jackett told the Express and Star.

"It’s something that’s come out of the blue – he hasn’t expressed any desire to leave."

"At present all parties are considering it including Kevin himself."

Mattila made only six appearances for Whites last term and sat out a large part of the second half with back problems.
