Slavisa Jokanovic has declared the loan market a no-go for young Fulham hopefuls until January at least.

The likes of Denis Adeniran, Jesse Joronen, Sean Kavanagh, Luca de la Torre and Tayo Edun graced the EFL Cup with aplomb as the gaffer rang necessary changes.

But after their club exited to Bristol City in September, he says he still needs all hands on deck, despite none of the above so much as getting a seat on the bench for Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

Last year, Whites allowed 15 loans for those with a realistic chance of first-team football. So far, this season it's just five, with the most notable temporary move for Richard Stearman back to Wolves.

Jokanovic insists the wearing slog of a 46-game league season, as well as any FA Cup run demands he keeps his powder dry until the end of the next transfer window.

Decisions: Slavisa Jokanovic

“I don’t know how many players I expect we are going to use in this competition.

"In front of us is many games.

"We are a football team it is normal that we have 23 players in the squad, like another team.

"It is not the solution for young players and players who are not in the first eleven to look to another club to find a solution. The solution is on the training ground and in the game where they have the chance to perform for the fans and for the Fulham crest.

"I support them to push hard to compete on the training ground to fight for a place in the starting eleven or a place on the bench.

"I don’t offer them a solution to go to another club – at the end, the emergency loans don’t exist this season.

"Players don’t have another solution but to fight for the club they are actually at now and in January we are going to look at what is best for us and what is best for some young players.”
