MARTIN Jol wants to emulate Wigan Athletic’s giant-killing exploits and taste cup glory next season.

The Fulham boss was impressed with the way Roberto Martinez’s side upset the odds against Manchester City to lift the FA Cup earlier this month.

However, Wigan’s cup success came at the expense of their Premier League status as they were relegated after losing to Arsenal last week.

Jol is keen to bring silverware to Craven Cottage next season, although he is mindful of pushing his squad beyond its limits.

He said: “You can’t always win a prize but what you would like to do is maximise your situation with players, develop them like I did at Spurs, for example.

“At Ajax in my first year we had 85 points, more points than ever before, but there was another team that had 86 points but we still managed to win the Dutch Cup.

“I would like to do something at Fulham, not only be in the top 10, but to do something like Wigan. The only thing is, it’s better to stay in the league than to relegate and win the cup.

“It’s still a big thing for a club to be in the Premier League and we’ve been here for 13 years, but I’d like to do something in the cups.”
