If August wiped away the worries of pre-season, September offered a harsh welcome back to reality for Slavisa Jokanovic's new look squad.

Fulham didn't manage a single win and struggled to hit the back of the net in what was a stark contrast to the first month of the season which had seen them into second in the division.

They suffered one of the worst results too, when Bristol City smashed them 4-0 at Craven Cottage only days after dumping them out of the EFL Cup too.

After starting the month in second, they finished it in 12th and had it all do to in the coming weeks.

Here's how it panned out.

September 10 - Fulham 0-1 Birmingham City

It was a first defeat of the season for Jokanovic's side as Clayton Donaldson missed one penalty before smashing home his second to give Birmingham three points.

Michael Madl was booked for the first penalty and then he received his marching orders for a second booking after he brought down Donaldson in the 44th minute of the tie.

The manager took responsibility for the many mistakes his team made after the game but insisted Fulham would continue to play out from the back.

September 13 - Fulham 1-1 Burton Albion

The league's new boys came to the big city three days later and went home happy after securing a point at the Cottage, although they would've been frustrated it wasn't more.

They led the tie since the 51st minute when Jackson Irvine hit the back of the net and they looked on their way to their first ever away win in the Championship.

But Fulham piled on pressure and up stepped 16-year-old Ryan Sessegnon to bundle home in the third minute of injury time to save a point for the side.

September 17 - Wigan 0-0 Fulham

Another weekend and another draw for the Cottagers - this time away from home against recently promoted Wigan Atletic.

Wigan had lost their previous four games while Fulham were unbeaten away from home, which continued for Jokanovic's side despite not hitting the net in this tie.

The result saw Fulham drop out of the top six while Wigan remained in the relegation zone.

September 21 - Fulham 1-2 Bristol City

Fulham crashed out of the EFL Cup after Tammy Abraham scored a last minute goal to secure victory for the Robins.

Lucas Piazon had given the hosts the lead before Aaron Wilbraham restored parity just before the break for Bristol City.

As was the case for the season, Fulham missed a penalty when Cauley Woodrow had his penalty saved but the on-loan Chelsea man for Bristol made sure his side went through when he scored his ninth goal in eleven games.

September 24 - Fulham 0-4 Bristol City

It was deja vu at the Cottage three days later as Bristol visited in the league, but the performance and result couldn't have been more different.

Bristol ran riot, with Tammy Abraham scoring in the tenth minute to get his tenth of the season, while Luke Freeman hit the target in the 60th minute to double the lead.

Bobby Reid made it three and then things got worse as Kevin McDonald was given a straight red after he tackled Callum O'Dowda.

Aden Flint made it four late on to give Bristol their first victory since they beat Aston Villa on August 27.

It was Fulham's fourth game in the league without a win.

September 27 - Nottingham Forest 1-1 Fulham

Fulham ended the month at the City Ground and were the recipients of Nicklas Bendtner's first goal for Forest when he put them in front on the hour mark having already hit the crossbar earlier with a 25-yard-strike.

Tom Cairney equalised for the visitors after Forest failed to clear their lines but it was five games without a win for Fulham as they ended September.

Jokanovic said after the game: "My team showed a reaction after the embarrassing game against Bristol City but I am disappointed we didn't score a second and win the game. We created enough chances to have won the game but if we stay calm then the goals will come."
