Brentford midfielder Adam Forshaw has scooped the League One Player of the Year award.

The Bees star fought off competition from Kevin McDonald (Wolves) and Alex Pritchard (Swindon) to land the coveted gong, which was voted for my managers in the division.

“It’s something that I wouldn’t have won without the support of my team-mates, staff and my family," said Forshaw. "I was pleased just to be in contention.

“As much as I’m made up with the award I’m also focused on Brentford’s upcoming games as we aim for promotion, starting with Coventry next weekend.

“I’m really pleased with how it’s going this season – it could go all the way but I am lucky enough to be in a good team and playing possibly some of the best football of my career.

“My dad never misses a game and my family and girlfriend all come so they’ll be made up for me because they give me such great support.”

Brentford were also named the Johnstone’s Paint Community Club of the Year at The Football League Awards.

Lee Doyle said: “It’s an honour for the community team but I am accepting this on behalf of the football club. It is an honour for the club and all the people that work within it.

“There is lots of cross-over, whether they are employed or volunteers or fans and we are very proud for what our club stands for.

“From the point of view of the trust we invest in our own staff and our own people but we invest in the people that take part within our programmes and I think that is the secret – it is all about people.”
