Scott Davies suffered a fractured metatarsal while taking a free kick in Wealdstone's 3-0 win over Gosport Borough.

The midfielder suffered the break to his standing foot while unleashing a piledriver towards goal.

It is expected the injury is set to rule him out for the season although manager Gordon Bartlett hopes to see him back sooner rather than later.

He said: “Scott Davies fractured the metatarsal taking a free kick. It could be the rest of the season but we hope he can get back for the last couple but it'll be touch and go. It was his standing foot.

“He was trying to hit it too hard. He got a sharp pain, thought it was going to be all right. He went to hospital and that's what has happened.

“He was doing very well. The good news is we've got to 45 points otherwise this would be a greater concern.”

Bartlett takes his Stones side to face Boreham Wood on Saturday and he holds the Hertfordshire side as a role-model.

He added: “In their first season they were similar to us but have established themselves and they're looking to go one step further.

“We'd like to put a spanner in the works. We were 1-0 up for the majority of the game and they scored two in the last two minutes.

“It'd be nice to get revenge but we want to do the best we can. We're playing a top side so we'll see where we come.”
