Former QPR man Joey Barton is set to feature in the opening weekend of the Premier League season; however he won't be out on the pitch.

The controversial midfielder has agreed a deal to join TalkSPORT, and will join their flagship Saturday afternoon show, 'Matchday Live'.

He'll start the role as co-commentator of Watford vs Liverpool and every week thereafter, as well as featuring on Monday night's Kick-Off" show.

Barton is currently serving a suspension from football for a series of gambling offences, but the radio station have acted quickly to secure the opinionated Liverpudlian for the upcoming season.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Barton said: "I’m really looking forward to the new football season. Having listened to talkSPORT for many years, and given that I can’t be on the pitch, being part of the biggest sports radio station every week is certainly the next best thing. Tune in for honest, no-nonsense punditry on Monday nights and Saturday afternoons."

One thing is for certain, Barton is not the sort of pundit to hold his tongue so if he's not impressed, you're more than likely to hear about it!
