Former QPR midfielder Joey Barton has said people would be "silly" to write him off after being banned from football.

The 34-year-old was banned for 18 months after being found guilty of betting offences, effectively ending his career as a professional footballer.

However Barton says that despite the difficult circumstances, he is determined to find his way back into the game.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: "It makes it incredibly difficult, but it makes it an even better story, should you have the audacity to pull it off.

"I don't think I have (played my last football match). Obviously I may well have but personally i don't think that'll be the case."

When asked if he had played his last game in English football, Barton said: "I don't know, but anybody who knows anything about me would be really silly to write me off."
