Former QPR and Fulham defender Rufus Brevett has applied for the vacant Hayes & Yeading job.

United are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Phil Babb this week by mutual consent.

Director of football Tristan Lewis is in charge of first-team affairs while the club searches for a successor.

Brevett, who also lists West Ham and Doncaster Rovers among his old clubs, is in the running for the position.

Departure: Phil Babb

The 45-year-old has previous managerial experience with Combined Counties League side Arlesey Town having taken charge of the club between November 2013 and December 2014.

He last month agreed to taking up a coaching position at Banbury United but manager Paul Davis will not stand in his way if he gets the nod from Hayes & Yeading.

Meanwhile, another former QPR player, Kevin Gallen, is also believed to be interested in replacing Babb at Beaconsfield Road.

In the running: Rufus Brevett

Gallen, 39, has most recently worked as a scout for Millwall and obtained his A licence last year as he prepares for a career in the dugout.

GetWestLondon understands no decision is likely to be made before next weekend’s trip to Sutton, with Lewis taking control of the team at Borough Sports Ground.

Lewis is also under consideration as a potential candidate but will need to turn things around on the field after a run of 10 games without a win under Babb.
