Gianfranco Zola has emerged as a shock candidate to become the next Fulham boss.

The Italian has been out of work since leaving Watford in December but is believed to be under consideration to succeed Felix Magath, who was axed last week following a disastrous start to the season.

Other names in the frame include former Norwich City manager Chris Hughton, Steve Clarke and Tim Sherwood, while caretaker boss Kit Symons is also on the shortlist.

Fulham chairman Shahid Khan has vowed to carry out an 'exhaustive' search to find the right man to change the club's fortunes, with the Whites bottom of the Championship after taking just a point from their first eight games.

Symons will get another chance to stake a claim for the post on a permanent basis when the Cottagers take on Doncaster Rovers in the Capital One Cup this evening.
