Earlier this season all the talk was about the way Blues could turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye.

If they lost their mojo in that respect, somewhere along the way, it came back tonight.

A Branislav Ivanovic clearance from just by his own six yard line saw his colleague hurtle upfield at remarkable speed.

Ramires crossed to Eden Hazard, with both defenders and fans directly in line, calling 'offside'.

But replays showed the assistant referee got it right in calling his headed goal legal.

Mere seconds from defending a shot to scoring one. Ruthless stuff.

But there was no way they could keep up the pace

Chelsea's rapidity in moments of triumph was all too fleeting.

For much of the rest of the game, they were lacking in the pace and drive needed to humble a West Ham side that was expected to be there for the taking.

But, on the back of a Wembley cup final, and with West Ham not afraid to show their physicality, this was typical Jose Mourinho.

Kill a team in a flash, and recharge the batteries for the other 89 minutes – that wasn't quite the story of this game, but it was the general ethos.

With three points in the bag, Mourinho will see it as job done.

The old Ramires is back

Running all over the shop, providing an assist, going close himself twice – this was vintage stuff from Ramires.

Until now it has been a forgettable season for the Brazilian – unfit and out of form.

But what a time to come back to his best.

Chelsea have plenty of men showing the fatigue of a long season – Oscar was anonymous, Cesc Fabregas far from his best.

Ramires looks like he has much to give in this title run-in.

Mourinho wasn't joking about Zouma being the new Desailly

Imperious at Wembley, young Frenchman Kurt Zouma again cropped up in midfield for Chelsea.

This was a tougher game for him but he still left his mark on it, not least in the moment when, with all the maturity in the world, he turned a claret and blue shirt to shepherd away and clear a goalmouth ball.

Mourinho has been looking for a man to do the job of Nemanja Matic in his absence.

Zouma isn't quite that man yet, but he has bags and bags of potential.

Chelsea will grind out this title – and hang the haters

Pre-match predictions were of a goal avalanche.

But what we got was a niggly, physical, one-nil to The Chelsea.

It takes two to tango, and a lot of that was down to West Ham's game, but with 11 league games to play this title is Chelsea's to lose.

They won't be wanting silly mishaps, and there may be quite a few more games like this in coming months.
