Five reasons to be hopeful that Queens Park Rangers can bounce back at the first time of asking.

QPR suffered a terrible campaign under the guidance of Harry Redknapp and Chris Ramsey last season, winning just eight times as the R’s suffered immediate relegation from the top flight.

But Rangers have started to make a recovery, after Redknapp walked away in February and some of their old temperamental and high-maintenance players such as Adel Taarabt and Shaun Wright-Phillips have also left the frame.

And with Tony Fernandes at the helm, Rangers fans can be confident that their club will have a go at an immediate bounce back to the Premier League.

Better transfer policy

QPR are slowly, but surely, making the right sort of movements to rid themselves of the deadweight and introducing more players which they will need at Championship level.

Although keeping hold of Jordon Mutch and Alex McCarthy might have been ideal, the sales of Adel Taarabt will inspire confidence in fans as the enigmatic midfield maestro is divisive at the best of times - not an influence which will help the Hoops form a strong team spirit.

The re-introduction of fans' favourite Jamie Mackie is exactly the sort of team player which the club will be needing to acquire.

They have also signed talented young Australian Massimo Luongo - who has impressed for both Swindon and his country, claiming ‘most valuable player’ as he lifted the Asian Cup with Australia earlier this year. He is exactly the type of talent who can thrive in the Championship.

Keeping hold of the right players

And despite losing McCarthy and Mutch, Ramsey has managed to keep hold of the likes of Karl Henry and Matt Phillips - both of who will be valuable assets in the competitive slog that is the Championship.

For now at least, the club also has the prolific, promising Charlie Austin and Leroy Fer still on their books - if the club can manage to retain even one of these two, they will be greatly boosted in their quest to re-enter the promised land of England’s top flight. If Austin leaves, it will give Rangers a sizable transfer kitty to reinvest in the squad.

But even with the squad as it is, the Hoops have a strong spine through the axis of Rob Green, Steven Caulker and Luongo with which to base a team around - and with some more smart acquisitions, Rangers can cast off their image of being a retirement home and start seriously targeting the top six.

Tony Fernandes' passion

Since securing a majority stake in the Loftus Road side in 2011, Fernandes has always tried to make the best of the situations he has faced - even if he has been let down by a series of misinformed advisers.

The Air Asia tycoon clearly has a passion for the club, unlike previous owners, and it is just a matter of finding the right management team to help him put his generosity in the right places.

But failing that - he has been known to lavish his funds on lucky fans from time to time.

Release of the wage-drainers

While getting rid of players like Taarabt was pivotal in the club's quest to rebuild the DNA of the starting XI, the move which QPR have to be given most credit for is the way in which they discarded of the 'old boys'.

Under previous regimes, there was a real impetus on bringing in experienced players who seemed brilliant signings on paper - except in reality there was a worrying pattern emerging that these high-profile players took up an exceptional amount of space on the wage bill, whilst being past their prime.

And although the Hoops regularly talked the talk about changing their transfer dynamic for multiple seasons, they hadn't walked the walk until this summer - where they let go of the likes of Joey Barton, Rio Ferdinand, Bobby Zamora, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Richard Dunne.

This, alongside their new approach to bringing in younger talent, should really provide fans with a fresh hope of greater things to come.

Recent experience

The one positive to being labelled a 'yo-yo' club is it means that as a club you are well versed in the art of winning promotion.

QPR's last promotion from the Championship can most certainly not be called the cleanest, but Zamora's last ditch winner at Wembley after being penned back by Derby for 90 minutes will still be fresh in the memory for fans at Loftus Road.

And ultimately, the winning mentality that the squad had throughout their last two campaigns in the Championship will help to add some crucial mental steel to the squad vying to play their way out of the league this time around.

Ramsey's men will, however, need to address their poor run of form from last season first - momentum is just as important a factor to consider.
