Dave Brown cannot wait to meet up with some old adversaries when Hanworth Villa host North Greenford United in the preliminary round of the FA Cup next Saturday.

Tuesday night's 4-0 extra preliminary round replay win over Long Buckby pitched the Combined Counties Premier side against their old friends, who are now in the Southern League Central.

But it was not long ago that club secretary Brown, in his playing days, was going toe to toe with North Greenford when they and Villa were Middlesex County League rivals.

Brown said: “It will be good to see some old faces again and share some war stories. Both clubs have made superb progress since those days.

“It will be a tough test for us, but so to will be Saturday's league game against Molesey, who have been scoring goals for fun.

“We will go into the games with renewed confidence, however, after Tuesday's night's performance, which was a million miles away from the terrible on in the first game (which finished 1-1) on Saturday.”

Jake Jenkins hit a late leveller in the first game, while Levi King, Adam Baigent, Adam Turner and Andrew Juett all netted in the replay.

Also through to the next round are Combined Counties One side Bedfont & Feltham , who also now face Southern League Central opposition in shape of Leighton Town after winning 4-2 at Wellingborough Town, with two goals apiece from Jason Pinnock and Luke Craig.

But Premier Division side Bedfont Sports will have to put dreams of Wembley to one side for another year after being dumped out 3-2 at Staines Lammas on Friday night, despite goals from Adam Roberts and Joe Jackson.

Confident: Harefield manager Phil Granville

Meanwhile, a confident Phil Granville reckons Harefield United are favourites to progress to the first qualifying round when they meet Leverstock Green next weekend.

The Hares edged past Crawley Green on Saturday thanks to first-half strikes from Jamie Samuel and Harry Newman, and survived a late onslaught to win 2-1.

They play fellow Spartan South Midlands Premier outfit Leverstock Green on August 30, with a £1,925 prize pot for the winning team.

Despite having a completely new look to the side, with the likes of Danny Bennell, Jerome Ferguson, Matt Elston-Bull, Ben Gill and Mark Smith having joined the ranks, Granville is predicting his side will do the business again.

“We know quite a bit about them [Leverstock] and they probably know quite a bit about us too,” he said. “It’ll be an interesting game but we’ve got home advantage.

“We lose the element of surprise, which we had against Crawley Green, but I prefer to know a bit more about the opposition – we didn’t know anything about Crawley.

“We know a few of Leverstock’s players. A lot of them have come from teams like Rayners Lane. Liam Hind is a good player and gets quite a few goals for them, but I would certainly put us in the brackets of favourites. With no injuries, we should go through.”

However, Hillingdon Borough’s FA Cup journey came to an end with a 3-0 loss at Sileby Rangers, while Wembley were beaten 3-1 by Cogenhoe United in their replay on Tuesday night, having drawn 1-1 in Northamptonshire at the weekend.

At the double: London Tigers' Seb Philogene in action for former club Bedfont & Feltham

“Just a few more rounds to the final,” joked London Tigers chief executive Mesba Ahmed as his side dismissed Takeley from the cup on Tuesday night.

In truth, a couple more wins would do nicely for the coffers of the Perivale club. They got £1,500 for the 4-0 replay win, and stand to add £1,925 if they get past FC Clacton at home in the preliminary round on Saturday week.

Essex scalp number two beckons if they reproduce the form that saw Sebastian Philogene lash home on 28 minutes to get the ball rolling after the first game finished 2-2 on Saturday.

A tiring Takeley were no match for Philogene, who went one-on-one with the keeper and came out on top for 2-0, and two minutes later sub Oroua Chiadmi-Bouchab crossed for Kye Davies to convert at the back post.

Two minutes after that, Ali Soussi delivered for the lurking Davies to round off a good night.
