Paul Robinson believes AFC Wimbledon are a club on the up, despite a patchy start to the season.

The Dons are in the bottom half of the table and were beaten 1-0 by Oxford on Saturday, however Robinson, who has plied his trade for Millwall and Portsmouth, is excited by what he has seen so far during his time at Kingsmeadow.

He said: “I've settled in well. It's a good progressive club with a good young manager (in Neal Ardley) . We're a good group and with belief we can do something.

“Portsmouth and Wimbledon are both fan owned but are on different ends of the spectrum.

“Portsmouth have their heritage and their fanbase and Wimbledon is the opposite in that it's new but a progressive club. I've enjoyed my time here so far.”

Robinson was, naturally, frustrated after seeing his side lose at the death at the Kassam Stadium and called on his team-mates to have more belief in their ability as results would then come.

He added: “It's a little bit frustrating. I didn't think we were at our most fluent but neither were Oxford.

“It felt like a 0-0 to play in and probably did to watch. It was going to take a mistake or a bit of skill and he's smashed one in from 25 yards.

“It's a decent strike and we should have got out quicker to shut the shop but defenders sometimes think it's not dangerous.

“We just need belief in the changing room. We've played reasonably well. We've played okay but we need that cutting edge and belief as a team that we can come to places like this and stick the points on the bus. We know we've got to find the edge and a bit more.”
