Junior Hoilett was a forlorn character at QPR around this time last year.

Had he had any hair left to pull out, Chris Ramsey would have happily done so in a bid to find a way to get a talented player to fire on all four.

As it was, the return of Neil Warnock, first as a two-day a week 'adviser - and then as temporary boss after Ramsey was relieved of the first team duties, clearly did something for the Canadian international.

Holiett himself said at the time "it helps if someone believes in you," and there is no one better than Warnock when it comes to man motivation.

"When Neil Warnock came in he showed belief" Hoilett said. "I’m happy to be able to express myself on the pitch and it has given me a great boost.

“Any player would feel the same way, especially when you’re told not to worry about making mistakes.”

And today when he put pen to paper on a one-year deal with Cardiff City, where Warnock has taken the reins from a sacked Paul Trollope: "The Manager puts belief in his players and this is a great group of lads.

"Everyone loves playing for the Gaffer."

Pain: Junior Hoilett

After all, he somehow managed to get the best out of the wayward talent that was Adel Tarrabt in his time at Rangers.

Everyone else through up their hands in exasperation, none more so than Harry Redknapp, who in a fit of post-match pique called the Moroccan international 'two stone overweight.'

So no surprises the self-effacing, quiet Hoilett has gone to try his luck at Cardiff under Warnock, after repeatedly turning down overtures from QPR throughout the summer.

In the end, Hoilett made an incredibly meagre 30 starts and 41 sub appearances for Rangers over four years, in which he pocketed close to £40,000-a-week on average - even given the checks on wages for promotion and demotion.
