Former QPR favourite Gareth Ainsworth has played down his chances of landing in the Loftus Road manager's job – despite being installed as favourite by GetWestLondon's readers.

The Rs have said they will make an announcement on Harry Redkanpp's replacement in the next 48 hours, but this morning, Ainsworth was leading our poll of who you would like to see given the job.

However, Ainsworth, who spent seven successful years as a player at QPR, including two spells as caretaker manager, insists he is happy at Wycombe.

The gaffer: Ainsworth also had two spells as QPR caretaker manager

He not only led Wanderers to a last-day escape from relegation last season, but has seen his side spend most of this campaign in the top three of League Two.

Ainsworth said: “There is always talk of other jobs, but integrity plays a part here. Yes, I have connections with QPR having been there for so long, and it will be a great job for whoever gets it. But I am happy at Wycombe and totally committed here for the long term.”

Ainsworth, who would not be drawn on whether or not a return to Lotfus Road would one day be a dream job, reckons his former club could do a lot worse than keep Chris Ramsey in the hot seat for now.

As he is now: Ainsworth takes charge of a match at Wycombe

The caretaker manager led the Hoops to their first away win of the season at Sunderland on Tuesday night, but could be back in the academy by the weekend if chairman Tony Fernandes opts for a more experienced appointment.

Ainsworth added: “It always seems like QPR are in the news or in turmoil, but they got a great win at Sunderland.

“I'm not the man to make the decision, it will be Tony Fernandes' decision, but Chris Ramsey has got great credentials. He has been with the youth set up for so long, and sometimes that can give you a good grounding, as we saw with Brendan Rogers.”
