Former Brentford keeper Richard Lee has come out of retirement – but doesn't really expect to pull on his gloves again.

The 33 year old hung them up after his time with the Bees came to an end at the conclusion to last season, following five seasons at Griffin Park.

Lee was expected to concentrate on one of his many business ventures or punditry, but has been tempted back into playing by Ryman Premier side Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The Beavers' current number one is Mark Smith , on loan from Brentford, but Lee has been brought in as back-up ahead of their FA Trophy tie against Maidstone this afternoon.

Beavers' number one: Mark Smith

Lee posted on Instagram: “Technically, yes I have signed for Hampton and Richmond FC, but it is very much just in case of emergency.

“Thanks for the well wishes, but it would require tomorrow's cup game to go to a replay and the excellent Mark Smith to be unable to play in that replay on Tuesday. Knowing the size of the game, I'd hate for Hampton to be caught short.

“I'm at QPR with Soccer Saturday, which I'm looking forward to, so it's unlikely that I'll actually put on a Hampton shirt or even get to meet the lads.

“I've also not even put on a pair of gloves since retiring, so if in the highly unlikely event that I do play, then please don't expect much!”
