Chris Long is happy to keep doing his time on the bench and rotating with Andre Gray as Brentford's lone striker.

The on-loan Everton man was handed his first start since his two-goal display against Huddersfield in yesterday's win at Blackburn, and responded with Brentford's first if the night.

That made it four goals in nine appearances – and just two starts – for the Bees, but he will more than likely be back on the bench for Saturday's home game against Millwall.

Long said: “I'm happy to take my turns on the bench and will always be ready to come on or to start – it seems to have been working well so far.

At the double: Long celebrates his brace against Huddersfield two weeks ago

“The gaffer trusts me to deliver, and unlike my last loan spell (with MK Dons), where I got injured and things didn't really work out, this time things are going to plan.

“Andre is a great striker, and I understand he will start more games as he has been here longer, but I think he has benefited from the odd rest too.

“It was vital we got the win (at Blackburn), but we need to keep winning to stay in contention – and I plan to help by keeping scoring whenever I get the chance.”

Bees boss Mark Warburton also singled out the England U20 international, who is out of contract at Goodison Park in the summer, for praise.

He added: “Chris has done really well and deserved that goal. He has come into the squad just at the right time and has put in a great shift for us. He has been a credit to himself and Everton.

“Andre has been doing the leg work for us all season, and it's nice for him to be able to come on as a fresh pair of legs and run at tired defences from time to time.”
