Roberto Martinez fumed at the officials after Chelsea struck a controversial late equaliser at Stamford Bridge.

John Terry netted in the eighth minute of stoppage time to snatch a 3-3 draw and a point for the Premier League champions having earlier turned into his own net.

The Toffees manager couldn’t understand why so much added time had been signalled and felt Terry was in an offside position when he stole in for the last-gasp leveller.

Martinez said: “It was a terrific football game. One thing Chelsea has is they are always capable of getting into goalscoring positions.

“Scoring the third goal for me is a victory but then there is the understandable feeling of disappointment.

“We had to play seven minutes of injury time and the goal was seven minutes and 51 seconds and John Terry was offside.

“The players are down but they have no need to feel that way. Maybe referees need help with a big clock in the ground so everyone can see how long is left.

“It’s a heartbreaking moment for us because we deserved three points. The seven minutes is difficult to explain but you cannot explain the extra 51 seconds.

“John Terry is offside and it was a major, major error. We are a young team and sometimes you need to go through these experiences.”

Chelsea remain unbeaten under Guus Hiddink but the Dutchman won’t want too many more late dramas like this showing.
