Eden Hazard believes Kevin De Bruyne had the ability to succeed at Chelsea.

The 23-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by Jose Mourinho and sold to Wolfsburg last season.

But De Bruyne’s nine Bundesliga goals and 16 assists this term suggest the attacking midfielder had plenty to offer the Blues.

His Belgian international team-mate Hazard certainly thinks so and claims De Bruyne could have proven himself at Stamford Bridge.

"He is a great player. Mourinho decided to let him go and not play him," Hazard told French newspaper L'Equipe.

"It was not my decision, even though I know very well that he could play at Chelsea because he has tremendous qualities.

"I think at Chelsea, you have more pressure than Wolfsburg. It's a shame he's gone but he'll have a successful career."

De Bruyne’s exploits in Germany have seen him linked with a return to the Premier League this summer with Manchester City reported to have made an enquiry.

Hazard and De Bruyne are preparing for a Euro 2016 qualifier with Cyprus on Saturday evening.
