It won't be just Bristol City and Walsall out to land some silverware under the arches of Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

So too are a group of girls from Ealing, as before the trifling matter of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final is the far more serious matter of the Kinder+Sport Football League Girls Cup final.

Having worked their way through the regional rounds, the U13 girls team from Elthorne Park High School, representing Brentford FC, will be looking to be crowned queens of England when they take on a team from the north-east, representing Hartlepool United.

The Elthorne girls booked their big day out after emerging triumphant at the Southern Regional Final of the competition last month, where they saw off schools representing Southend United, Colchester United and Cardiff City.

The first round of games saw them held 1-1 by Colchester before beating Southend 4-3 and Cardiff 2-0, before the repeat fixtures saw a 1-0 defeat to Colchester before sweeping aside Southend 4-0 and Cardiff 2-1 to set up a final against Colchester.

Despite this being the only team they had yet to best, Elthorne triumphed 3-1 to earn their place in the national final.

Elthorne' head of girls PE, Julie Jerham, said: “This has already been an incredible achievement by our students, and hopefully they can go one better at Wembley. The girls are all so excited!”
