Moses Odubajo admitted it was ‘a dream come true’ after he made his England U20 debut against their Mexican counterparts on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old played 90 minutes in the Three Lions’ 1-1 draw and was not needed to take a penalty in the shoot-out that followed which England won 4-2.

The Brentford star, who was used as a wing back in Aidy Boothroyd’s system, grew into the game and was a thorn in the side of the Mexicans as time went on.

And it capped a remarkable 12 months that saw Odubajo score a wondergoal at Wembley for Leyton Orient in their play-off final defeat, move to the Championship with Brentford, establish himself in the second tier and earn international recognition.

He said: “It’s a dream come true because if you asked me where I’d be a year ago I wouldn’t have said I’d be at Brentford and playing for England.

“You’ve got to embrace it and feel good enough to be here rather than being excited and under pressure.

“I sent a text to my family, my brothers and girlfriend when I found out I was playing and they came to support me. Credit to the Brentford fans who came to support me and I heard them loud and clear.

“At first, it’s always hard playing with people you’ve never played with before and I think I grew into the game as it’s the first time we’ve played like that in a full game. Mexico were really good on and off the ball and playing with high energy.”
