Candid Jonathan Douglas admits nobody emerged with any credit from Brentford's 4-0 hammering at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The midfielder was probably the best Bees performer on the day, but that was of little consolation to the 32 year old, who is now in his fourth season at Griffin Park.

While the Bees were unlucky to lose 3-0 at home to Norwich last Tuesday, Douglas insists there was nothing unfortunate about Saturday's scoreline – and it could have been worse.

He said: “We didn't perform all over the park, and in the end we got what we deserved. We didn't play as a team, and if you do that teams will find you out at this level.

“We are capable of playing a lot better, which we know already, so it's definitely not time to panic, but everybody is still disappointed with the result, and the manager had a few things to say afterwards.

“While Norwich last week was never a 3-0 and we felt like we had been robbed, 4-0 against Middlesbrough actually flattered us, as it could easily have been a heavier defeat.”
