Brentford won't need a major overhaul in personnel to survive in the Championship, according to boss Mark Warburton.

The Bees sealed promotion back to the second tier for the first time in more than two decades with today's win over Preston.

And Warburton believes he already has the spine of a squad who are more than capable of holding their own at the level above.

He said: “All I've heard is about what players we can bring in for next season, but don't forget we have a very good squad here already. Tony Craig is talked about as a senior pro, and he is only 28, and some of our younger players have made more than 100 Football League appearances.

“We will bring in one or two because you have to, but we are in strong shape already. We are better balanced than we were last season too. The young ones have another season under their belts and are experienced campaigners now.

“We now have time to focus on where we are on and off the pitch. We are two years into a five year project. Long term, we are looking to fill a 20,000 seater stadium and cement our place in the Championship. Short term, we will enjoy ourselves after May 3.

“Today was very important though. If we had lost, the jitters would have come in. But we applied ourselves from the first whistle, had a good tempo and deserved our lead.”
