Jim Fenlon got a diamond stud earring for Christmas from his mum.

What the Dons defender wants also is somewhere between 15-20 games to go with his man of the match display that has only earned a Scrooge-like one point out of the last two games.

The teenager had mixed feelings the team were a single cross and a headed Southend winner from a second clean sheet. The centre came from the other wing it must be added, and Fenlon was still disappointed AFC got nothing for their pains when down to 10 men following the dismissal of George Francomb in the first half.

Fenlon said: “It’s frustrating not playing, so when I do get a chance I’ve got to keep my place in the team.

“If you’re playing well, it’s always going to be hard for the person not starting to get back in – and that’s what it was like for me with Baz (Barry Fuller) playing right back.

“Now he's having to play in the centre, I’m having a little run of games, which is good, but it was a shame the way Southend got their goal.”

Fenlon was happy to show his new ear stud, and hopes his mum back home in Tooting might consider another if he kicks on his career.

“If I can get maybe 15-20 games this season, that would be good progress,” he added.
