Neal Ardley lamented a tale of two boxes as his side suffered home defeat to Carlisle.

The 3-1 reverse was about giving the game away at one end and not taking chances at the other, he supposed.

Dons had 22 attempts on the Cumbrian goal in contrast to seven by the strugglers. The frustration was United took three of them, with AFC netting just the one - and that in the first minute.

“We were too open and everyone joined in the attack, and on the break we looked vulnerable,” Ardley added.

No pen: Azeez (R) denied

“We gave them that opportunity. I can’t fault the energy and effort, but did we make bad decisions? Yes, we did.”
“In League Two it’s all about the boxes. In one box we created several chances we didn’t take. In the other we didn’t defend with enough aggression, enough cleverness and enough nous - and that’s why we lost the game.

There was a moment in the second half when it appeared Ade Azeez had been pushed in the box amid howls for a penalty waved away by the referee.

Honest Ardley reckoned the man in the middle got it right.

“I saw the footage, and I didn’t think it was a penalty. I think Ade overdid his touch, and maybe he should have got his shot away earlier.”
